Ok,I’m joining Mommy Fest and this certain meme for mom really caught my interest. It’s about the things I learned for being a mom. Althought I’ve learned so much, but I’ll cut my list to the top ten things I learned since I became a MoM. It’s a random ,so it means, I’ll write/type whatever comes to mind.

I learned that. . . .

. . .I didn’t know how to become a mom until I became one.

. . .Eating cold pizza direct from the fridge was really fun and according to my 3 yrs old then son,it was also “yummy!”

. . .That as a mom you have no time to eat, yet you are still full with their left overs.

. . .My boys think I’m the prettiest woman in the whole universe (that’s why,I love them to death! )

. . .It’s ok if my house is messy with toys,it means my boys are active and alive.

. . .I have no idea who was the State Representative of Oh(state we lived in for 6 years) but I know all Dora’s friends name.

. . .I can make a pizza with just taco wrapper and sprinkled shredded cheese on it then put it on microwave for 5 minutes,and Patrick would love it!

. . .Hunny can make the best grilled cheese because the boys hate me when I try to make one.

. . .Both of my boys still think that my kisses really make their boboo go away.

. . .That the tickle monthster leave in our bedroom.

. . .There’s no need to attend any university to become a professional mom.

. . .That my job is not only to take good care of them(because nanny can do that!) but also to nurture them and to teach then how to be a good person when they become a real man.

. . .That being a mom is not really a job,it’s my way of living.

. . .Being a mom doesn’t end when your kids reach adulthood.

. . .I love being a mom and enjoy every minute of it.

. . .That hugs and kisses from the boys really worth everything,it’s their own li’l way of saying “Job Well Done”.

How It All Began.

The earliest Mother’s Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods.

During the 1600’s, England celebrated a day called “Mothering Sunday”. Celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent. “Mothering Sunday” honored the mothers of England.

During this time many of England’s poor worked as servants for the wealthy. As most jobs were located far from their homes, the servants would live at the houses of their employers. On Mothering Sunday the servants would have the day off and were encouraged to return home and spend the day with their mothers. A special cake, called the mothering cake, was often brought along to provide a festive touch.

As Christianity spread throughout Europe the celebration changed to honor the “Mother Church” - the spiritual power that gave them life and protected them from harm. Over time the church festival blended with the Mothering Sunday celebration . People began honoring their mothers as well as the church.

In the United States Mother’s Day was first suggested in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe (who wrote the words to the Battle hymn of the Republic) as a day dedicated to peace. Ms. Howe would hold organized Mother’s Day meetings in Boston, Mass ever year.

In 1907 Ana Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began a campaign to establish a national Mother’s Day. Ms. Jarvis persuaded her mother’s church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother’s Day on the second anniversary of her mother’s death, the 2nd Sunday of May. By the next year Mother’s Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia.

Ms. Jarvis and her supporters began to write to ministers, businessmen, and politicians in their quest to establish a national Mother’s Day. It was successful, by 1911 Mother’s Day was celebrated in almost every state. President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official announcement proclaiming Mother’s Day as a national holiday that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May.

While many countries of the world celebrate their own Mother’s Day at different times throughout the year, there are some countries such as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium which also celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May.

· Mother’s Day is widely reported as the peak day of the year for long distance telephone calls

· Mother’s Day is the busiest day of the year for many restaurants

· Retailers report that Mother’s Day is the second highest gift-giving holiday in the United States (Christmas is the highest).

. . .of buying books for the boys, books to read for Patrick and then some coloring book for Kendrick so that they have something to do on the plane or during stop-over in between flights,that will keep them busy or at least less-bored and also get a book for myself because reading those in-flight shopping magazine is not on my list of things-to-do on the plane.

I love reading,it is also one of my hobby. Give me a book that will capture my interest and I can finish it in no time. I can let a day passed just by reading. It was all started when I was in fifth grade,when my brother took home his Bible and out of my curiosity, I started flipping the page and before I knew it,I’m done reading it from cover to cover, although I forgot how long it took me to finish it. So anyway,since that day I began to realized that, hey! I love to read!. And since I can’t afford to buy anything during those times(nope,I can afford to buy candy ),I’m always glad when my dad brought home some old books and magazine from my cousin’s house because it means I have something to read. I lived in US for 6 years and I already accumulate at least 50 books (all hard-bound) and I’m dreaming of having my own-mini libary someday,a home office where all I can do is read a book.

That’s why,when my two boy’s was born,I wanna make sure that they have no any learning disabilities by introducing them early to books. I started to read them story since the day they were born (heck! I was reading them a story when they were still in my tummy!) and I’m glad that it didn’t took then a long time to show interest in reading,I sign them up for a Kid’s Book Club and have their own books as well.( Patrick received a 1 year subscription of Highlight Magazine from Grandma). I’m just hoping that the love of reading is not just a phase that they can outgrow someday but to be a part of their personality.

Two more weeks before we move to Canada and as a part of my personal preparation ,I promise myself that I’ll get a beauty makeover (any violent reaction? ) aside from I have no one to watch the boys if I have to do it when I get there, but also it is very expensive, while I can get the same treatment here for 75% off the price,and no,it’s not a whole body makeover,i just had my hair done (hair relaxed w/ hot oil) and it only cost me Php700.00. I’m done with our luggage as well aside from there’s still more houseclothes that I have to pack in a last minute,my sister took my coat for a dryclean last tuesday.I also did some shopping last week bought some summer clothes for me and the boys and I don’t think we need more. Next week I’ll take the boys to have a hair cut then we’re almost done.

I just gotta post this picture of my boys that I think it’s their sweetest pose so far,and I can’t help it but to realized that, wow! they’re grown so fast!. I’m just glad that regardless of their 4 years age gap,they grow up emotionally closer with each other. Everytime I spend time with one of them,whoever was with me,he always think of his brother at home and make sure that we always have a “pasalubong“(a li’l coming home present) for him.I’m just so happy that I decided to be a stay at home mommy and take good care of them and watching them grow before my eyes is really a worth keeping experience knowing that I can’t be with them all the time as much as I want specially when they started having they’re own life and exploring the world without mommy & daddy (at least on their side physically). I have to savor every minute with them while they still think that mommy is the most beautiful girl in the world! (please bear with me, I’m having a mommy moment here…..)

We are about to leave here within three weeks time,I already printed out our trip Itenerary and call the Airlines to confirm our flight,and It’s really makes me feel sad , I feel like being here for more than a year is still not enough but I know though,that wether I like it or not,we really have to go, my husband miss us terribly as much as we miss him,and so my in-laws,they miss the boys so much,but I’m just glad that the boys had a chance to meet their cousins here and also learn my native language,both of them are now expert in Tagalog.

In a few days,I have to post about the things I’m gonna miss,because I know it’s going to be a long time again before another vacation here. Not just for financial matters but also the schedule,Patrick will be in first grade this year (he attended kinder here),then I’m going to get a job as well,so there will be too many things to consider before we can afford another “Bakasyon Grande“.
