Holidays are only a couple of weeks away, they say that Christmas is the longest holiday celebrated here in the Philippines, because the celebration started as soon as a month ending in “er” begins. And I thought I personally will be very excited about spending it here after living in outside the country for 6 straight years,(yes,no vacation in between). You know, with my family,do the holiday shopping just like the old days when I was still single, cooking and eating all those authentic Filipino Food that I craved so much when I was still in US. But now that it is only a few weeks away,a sad realization comes to me,and that is, that I didn’t missed anything at all.
. My family is here, yes, but it’s different now,the bonding is not the same anymore,we are all busy on our own little world,I’m also done with my shopping but the excitement wasn’t there at all, I bought the boys some clothes and toys, and I also bought myself some stuff that I want (well,at least I thought I want it). And honestly,I’m not excited about cooking or eating anything special for the Noche Buena (Am I really that bad?). All those years I thought I missed the Paskong Pinoy,
but I’m so surprised to found out how wrong I was. I guess living in a foreign country for a long time has change me a lot,not just literally but emtionally and my perspective in life as well. Now what I really gonna miss is the way we celebrate Christmas at home, and when I say home, it means with my three boys (Hunny,Patrick and Kendrick). I’m gonna miss the simple, but solemn celebration of our Christmas Eve where all we gonna do is to have our normal supper, pizza or sub sandwich for hunny,I’ll call the chinese restaurant for my favorite Beef with Mixed Veggies then chicken wings and smiley fries for Patrick, and Kendrick will enjoy everything from hoping from plate to plate, after that we will watch a Disney movie on DVD or maybe watch the snow falling outside the window while waiting for twelve midnight, the boys are excited to open their presents as well as going to bed because they know that there’s more present the next day from their grandparents and of course from Santa, and that’s that way I wanted it now,I’m not used to this noisy celebration anymore, you know,no annoying neighbors asking where did I bought the boys clothes and for how much, some people expect me to decorate the house as if I’m competing for a x’mas-decor contest. All along I thought holidays in US are very commercialized but now I realized it’s worse here, and at least people there can afford it that way, unlike here that other people will do everything just to “Keep up with the Joneses“,it’s really very overwhelming.I can’t wait to get this things done and get it over with,so I can start preparing for our upcoming departure, well,it’s not until March (but I keep my finger cross).Hunny is already started shopping for a cheaper plane tix.I just can’t wait!
