ThursdayThirteen

We just move to this town a month ago(another reason why I’m busy)I’m gonna list thirteen things that I love about this new town.

1. It’s very family-friendly. Everybody seems nice,I guess that’s the advantage of living in a small town, people get along so well and everybody seems to know everbody.
2. It feels like home. Maybe because it’s only a three hours drive from our original hometown,Carey,Ohio and we are also on the same time zone (Eastern Time)
3. Everything I need is just around the corner, like the library (because I love to read books),the banks, and also the post office,(of course)
4. Wal-mart is just a few blocks away. Because that’s where we shop for our grocery most of the time.
5. Plenty of Asian Stores to chose from. And Patrick’s teacher also told me about a Filipino-owned store in Ottawa st. but we never check it yet.
6. There’s a grocery that open for 24 hours,so it means if we need anything in the middle of the night, like maybe we crave for ice cream, we can get it anytime we want. 
7. Detroit River are only few blocks away and the view is outstanding!.I can spend all day there, just give me a good book to read.( I wish I can really spend a day reading a book!)
8. Nice Parks for the boys to enjoy, and Patrick loves the water spray park the most.
9. We are also close to the the best Ice Cream Parlour in town. The first time we got there, the boys had a blast.
10. We have a big backyard. It meansI can make a li’l garden next Spring and still there’s a big space for the boys to play.
11. Plenty of restaurant as well with great food when I’m too lazy to cook.
12. Our next door neighbor are quite friendly.
13. It’s gonna be our first winter and according to some people here, winter time is kinda tolerable although Kendrick is already looking forward for a big snow, him and Patrick are already talking about how they gonna build a snowman.
There are still more good things about this town and very soon we will discover it on our own.

Weekend Reflections

“My father died many years ago,
and yet when something special happens to me,
I talk to him secretly not really knowing whether he hears,
but it makes me feel better to half believe it.”
-Natasha Josefowitz

- As I was searching for a quote for Weekend’s Reflection, this one got stuck into me.My dad passed away, not many years ago though, but just last year,in fact we just commemorate his first death anniversary last saturday (June 7),and yes, it happened a week before Father’s Day,and also one day shy to my husband’s birthday as well. And just like Natasha Josefowitz (whoever she was) I do sometimes found myself talking to my dad unconciously or sometimes,I have this what-would-daddy-do kind of thinking if I’m in a certain situation and I have no freaking idea what to do,and sad to say,it happen a lot of times.

Anyway,my dad died four months after we arrived in the Philippines. It was my first vacation after staying overseas for six years and also the first time for him and the boys to see each other. I’m glad that at least he waited for us,I mean,he was already in bed when we got there and for six years ,if my memory serves me right, we only talked on the phone 3 times and the conversation usually last for 3 minutes or so and most of the time he just asked how’s the boys. Now I wish we talk more.

I can’t say that my dad deserved a Father Of The Year award, neither to be the Best Father, but I know he tried to be one. He’s the only person that inspired me to study hard,to excell in school because he always emphasized that above all else, the only key to success is a good education and a good reputation that comes with it.He despised an illiterate person,I don’t know the reason why and I dared not to asked. My dad was not a college graduate. He support us by working as an electrician,a trade he learned from a vocational school and also any other job that comes in between.

I know my dad was proud of what I become, althought he never said so,but I just know. Now as we celebrate Father’s Day,I hope other people will not wait until their dad can’t hear them talk no more.I was browsing my mementos box yesterday and I found this old Father’s Day card dated June 2004,it was already sealed with stamp and it was addresssed to my dad but for a reason I don’t remember,I didn’t send it.So I guess,I’ll just keep it.

Quote for next Sunday:

Married couples who love each other tell each other a thousand things without talking.-Chinese Proverb

I love. . .

. . .watching news,it’s one of my guilty pleasure, (and I guess it’s also another way of telling “I’m old!) If only the boys would let me have the tv on CNN all day, that’ll be great, but of course, CNN’s top journalist has no match to Spongebob Squarepants,so all I have to do is  wait for the evening news, and I love NBC,yeah, i know I was supposed to watch the local news here, but I love watching Brian Williams,I think he’s hot & smart ;) ,then I have to wait until they are ready to go to sleep,so I can watch CNN,and nope,it’s not Larry King that I like,he’s too old and his suspenders irritate me to death, but I drool over Anderson Cooper,I think he’s not only smart but also very nice person and he’s best at what he does,he’s the total package there is in journalism industry,CNN is very lucky that they have a guy like him and If I’m a journalist,I want to be his female version (wishful thingking!).

So anyway,as I was watching the news last night, they have an update about Clinton-Obama issue and I think Barrack Obama already won the Democratic Presidential nomination but I hope that american voters will be wise enough not to vote for him, asking me Why?,I’d rather keep it to my self. ;)

Then they have the news about fuel,of course, how the gas prices affect the american ways of living, and all along I thought this gas hike was only happening in the Phils. until I came here and found out that I was so wrong.According to the news, most of the SUV owner now try to get rid of their trucks because of the gas price, and honestly,we are one of those people, although ours is just a minivan (Ford Windstar),hunny want to get rid of it since last year,we bought it brand new way back in 2004 for the reason that we have two little boys and we need big space everytime we travel, you know for the baby’s stuff and everything, but now that the boys are big enough,we thought we don’t need it anymore and we decided to get a regular car and of course,to cut our gas expenses, and I hope if not this month, maybe we get our new car next month.(Just keep my finger cross) ;)

I want. . .

. . . to change my blog lay-out/theme,I want one with three columns, but I just can’t find one that really fit my taste.

. . .to buy a daddy’s day present for hunny but I don’t know what to get,I know he’s a NASCAR junkie but I think I already or at least he already got all JR’s stuff . I can’t find a nice Cowboy’s(his NFL team) stuff either, but I still have one thing to get, maybe there’s a latest fishing stuff,at least. . .(keep my finger cross)

. . .to go to Niagara Falls this summer, but we still have to figure things out,it’s like “what’s the use of being in Canada If I can’t visit Niagara Falls?,or being in NY if I can’t go shopping? and the list goes on & on. . .

. . .to go shopping but I don’t know what I want and I hate myself for being like this because most of the time I buy some stuff that I don’t really need and I’m just glad that at least here I can refund it.
